Qigong and the Moon

In the Western world, the idea that our energy and behavior can change with the moon's phases may seem old-fashioned, even humorous. Yet, across diverse cultures, this wisdom endures. Why? Because it's based on a simple common sense that transcends cultural boundaries. The moon's cycle mirrors the cycling of energy from Yin to Yang and back. This cosmic rhythm directly affects our emotions, energy levels, and behaviors. Simply put, our energy peaks at the full moon and wanes at the new moon, but we often remain oblivious to this cycle. Many Asian cultures, particularly Buddhist ones, use lunar calendars, fostering a deep awareness of the moon's phases.

In the realm of Qigong, the moon's profound connection to Yin energy is a fascinating subject. Practising Qigong under the full moon is a very powerful experience.

Moon and Yin Energy

The moon is brimming with Yin energy, which in Chinese philosophy signifies qualities like cooling, moistening, and nourishing. To tap into this force, you need to adjust your own frequency to align with nature. Qigong offers a simple but effective way of connecting with the moon's tranquil yin energy.

Absorbing lunar energy into your Dan Tiam, the body's main energy center, charges you with profound Yin energy, which affects your moods, emotions stress levels. This practice is especially effective for addressing Yang's hyperactivity, which often manifests as restlessness, anxiety, or excessive heat in the body. During a full moon, we can supercharge ourselves with the soothing and nurturing Yin energy to calm and comfort our body and mind.

Focusing on the yin energy also helps women during the days leading up to menstruation. At this time, the body tends to heat up, and excess fire energy can lead to discomfort. Yin qi is your ally in calming this excess heat and restoring balance.

Full moon practice

To harmonize with the moon's energies, follow this simple practice:

On the night of the full moon, venture outside and practice ideally between 11 pm and 1 am. The full moon will have the best effect if it is not clouded, make sure the moon's light shines directly on the crown of your head.

You can go through your daily practice or meditation.

As you practice under the moon's watchful gaze, you'll find serenity, balance, and a deeper connection to the natural world. This experience is well worth staying up for, as you'll feel its effects for days to come.
